As a general guideline, we recommend a minimum of 15 Mbps for households with 1-2 people who primarily use the internet for web browsing, email, and social media with one device streaming video. For households with 3-5 people who stream video, we recommend at least 20 Mbps. And for households with more than 5 people or heavy internet usage, we recommend 30 Mbps. If you have a secondary location, such as a guest house, a home office or backyard workshop, you may be wondering how you can get internet access there. At Vision WiFi, we offer a couple different options for supplying internet to your secondary location: a new connection or wireless bridge equipment.
For a new connection, we will install a separate internet connection at your on property secondary location at a discounted monthly service rate. This will provide you with a dedicated connection and ensure that your internet speeds remain fast and reliable.
Alternatively, in the event a new connection isn’t available, we can install a wireless bridge (if equipment is available) to essentially piggyback from your home connection. This involves installing wireless radios at both locations, which allows the secondary location to receive internet access by connecting to the primary router via a wireless signal. This can be a great option if you don’t need a lot of bandwidth at your secondary location. But do keep in mind this will have a higher upfront cost of the equipment, prices for this begin at roughly $350.
Both options do require purchase of a router for the secondary location.
